Whiplash Treatment at Quantum Chiropractic

Medically reviewed by Dr. Jaycob Holohan, D.C.

Dr. Holohan works regularly with patients recovering from injury, and we document findings properly at the time of evaluation, which matters if a claim becomes involved later.

Whiplash is what happens when your head is thrown forward and back faster than your neck can control. It happens in collisions that leave barely a scratch on the car, and it very often does not hurt on day one.

That delay is the dangerous part. People feel fine, skip the evaluation, and end up with chronic neck pain months later.

Common Causes of Whiplash

  • Rear-end collisions. The most common cause, including at low speeds.
  • Side-impact accidents. Lateral force the neck is not built to absorb.
  • Sports impacts. Contact injuries producing the same rapid head movement.
  • Falls. Sudden jarring impact through the neck and spine.

Symptoms Related to Whiplash

  • Neck pain and stiffness, often appearing 24 to 48 hours later
  • Reduced range of motion in the neck
  • Headaches starting at the base of the skull
  • Pain or tightness across the shoulders and upper back
  • Dizziness or fatigue
  • Tingling or numbness in the arms

If any of these appear after an accident, even days later, get evaluated.

How We Treat Whiplash

The National Library of Medicine has a plain-language overview of whiplash injury if you want the clinical background.

What to Expect From Treatment

The first visit is a full evaluation of the neck and upper spine, with the mechanism of the collision taken into account. X-rays are taken where the findings call for them, and everything found is documented properly at the time. If care is appropriate, we start with gentle work rather than anything forceful.

Most patients notice range of motion returning before the soreness fully settles. Typically care is more frequent in the early weeks while soft tissue is still irritable, then spaces out as the neck stabilises and rehabilitative exercises are added. We reassess throughout, so the plan adapts to your recovery rather than running as a fixed package.

Our Scope and When We Refer Out

Chiropractic care is not the right answer to everything, and we do not pretend otherwise. The assessment is what decides whether this practice can help you. If it points somewhere else, we tell you and we refer you out. We would rather send you to the right person than keep you on our schedule.

If you are unsure whether something needs urgent attention, speak to a physician first.

Common Questions About Whiplash

I feel fine after the accident, should I still come in?

It is worth being evaluated. Whiplash injuries commonly present days after a collision once the initial adrenaline has passed. An evaluation establishes what the crash actually did to your neck and documents it at the time, which matters both clinically and if a claim follows.

How soon after a collision should I be evaluated?

As soon as you reasonably can. Early evaluation gives us a clear baseline and lets us start gentle care before compensation patterns set in. If anything about your condition falls outside chiropractic care, we would rather find that out early and refer you out.

Will you work with my insurance?

Yes. We accept Medicare and Humana, United Healthcare and WebTPA, and many other insurances, so call us with your details. We document findings and care thoroughly, which is what claims processes tend to require.
