Spinal Decompression in Burleson
Medically reviewed by Dr. Jaycob Holohan, D.C.
Dr. Holohan works regularly with patients recovering from injury, where decompression is most often indicated.
Some spinal problems are not about position, they are about pressure. When a disc is compressed, the space the nerve root needs simply is not there, and no amount of adjusting on its own creates it.
Quantum Chiropractic offers cervical and lumbar decompression in Burleson — a gentle, non-surgical way to relieve that pressure directly.
The National Library of Medicine has a plain-language overview of spinal traction and decompression if you want the clinical background.

How Does Spinal Decompression Work?
Decompression gently and gradually separates the vertebrae, creating negative pressure within the disc. That reduces the load on the disc itself and on the nerve roots exiting the spine at that level.
It is slow, controlled and comfortable. Most patients describe it as a stretch rather than a treatment.
Cervical and Lumbar
We provide both. Cervical decompression addresses the neck, where compression frequently drives headaches, radiating arm pain and numbness in the hands. Lumbar decompression addresses the low back, where compression is the usual source of sciatic pain running down the leg.
Benefits of Spinal Decompression
- Relieves pressure on compressed discs without surgery
- Reduces nerve root irritation at the source
- Non-invasive and drug-free
- Comfortable — most patients find it relaxing
- Complements adjustments, addressing the pressure that positioning alone will not

What to Expect at Your Visit
- 1
Free consultation. We talk through your symptoms and where the pain travels.

Assessment, with imaging if indicated. X-Rays help us see whether pressure is genuinely part of the picture.

Decompression when indicated. This is not a default treatment. We use it when your assessment points to it.
- 4
Combined care. Decompression usually works alongside Chiropractic Adjustments and rehabilitative exercise.
What to Expect From Treatment
The first visit establishes whether decompression is the right tool for you. We examine the spine, review your history and take X-rays where the findings call for them. If it is appropriate, we explain how the table works and what the session will feel like before you get on it.
Sessions are passive and most patients find them comfortable. Change commonly shows up over a series of sessions rather than in one, and typically the early phase runs more frequently before spacing out as pressure comes off the nerve. Adjustments and rehabilitative exercises are usually combined with it. The plan is reassessed as you respond rather than sold as a fixed package.
Our Scope and When We Refer Out
Chiropractic care is not the right answer to everything, and we do not pretend otherwise. The assessment is what decides whether this practice can help you. If it points somewhere else, we tell you and we refer you out. We would rather send you to the right person than keep you on our schedule.
If you are unsure whether something needs urgent attention, speak to a physician first.
Common Questions About Spinal Decompression
What does decompression feel like?
- A slow, gentle stretch through the spine that builds and releases in cycles. There is no sudden movement and nothing you have to do except lie there. Most patients find it comfortable, and some find the session relaxing enough to doze through.
How is it different from an adjustment?
- An adjustment restores motion to a specific joint with a precise, controlled movement. Decompression uses sustained gentle traction over several minutes to reduce pressure on a disc or nerve. They solve different problems, which is why the two are often used together.
How many sessions does it usually take?
- Decompression is normally delivered as a series rather than a single visit, because the change is gradual. How many depends on your findings and how you respond. We reassess as care progresses instead of committing you to a set number up front.
