Pregnancy Discomfort Relief at Quantum Chiropractic
Medically reviewed by Dr. Jaycob Holohan, D.C.
Dr. Holohan works with expectant mothers and infants regularly, and adapts technique by trimester.
A lot of pregnancy discomfort gets filed under "normal" and left there. Some of it genuinely is. A fair amount responds well to having your alignment addressed.
Dr. Jaycob Holohan works regularly with expectant mothers, and care here is gentle and matched to your trimester.

Common Causes of Pregnancy Discomfort
- Shifting centre of gravity. Posture compensates and the low back absorbs it.
- Pelvic changes. Ligament and positional changes affecting alignment.
- Added weight distribution. New load through spine, hips and pelvis.
- Sciatic nerve pressure. Changing positioning compressing the nerve.
- Postural strain. Mid and upper back compensating for changes below.

What to Expect From Treatment
The first visit covers where you are in the pregnancy, what is uncomfortable and how you are sleeping and moving. The examination and the adjustment are both adapted to your trimester, using positioning and support that keeps pressure off the abdomen. X-rays are not used during pregnancy.
Most patients notice pelvic and low back discomfort easing within the first few visits. Typically visits continue at a comfortable rhythm through the remaining trimesters as the body keeps changing, with technique adjusted each time. Care adapts week to week rather than running as a fixed package, and it continues only as long as it is helping.
Our Scope and When We Refer Out
Chiropractic care during pregnancy works alongside your obstetric care and never replaces it. Your OB or midwife leads, and any pregnancy concern goes to them first.
Chiropractic care is not the right answer to everything, and we do not pretend otherwise. The assessment is what decides whether this practice can help you. If it points somewhere else, we tell you and we refer you out. We would rather send you to the right person than keep you on our schedule.
If you are unsure whether something needs urgent attention, speak to a physician first.
Common Questions About Pregnancy Discomfort
Is chiropractic care safe in every trimester?
- Care is adapted to each trimester rather than being the same throughout. Positioning, support and force are all adjusted as the pregnancy progresses, and Dr. Holohan works with expectant mothers regularly. If anything about your pregnancy makes care inappropriate, we say so.
Do I need my OB's approval first?
- We work alongside your OB or midwife, not instead of them, and we are glad for you to check with them first. Many patients do. If your provider has specific guidance for your pregnancy, bring it and we will work within it.
What positions do you use as pregnancy progresses?
- Side-lying and supported positioning are used as the pregnancy advances so there is never pressure on the abdomen. Technique shifts toward lower-force options as you get further along. Comfort is checked at every visit, and nothing is done that does not feel right to you.
