Sciatica Relief at Quantum Chiropractic
Medically reviewed by Dr. Jaycob Holohan, D.C.
Lumbar decompression addresses the pressure directly, which is why we use it here more than anywhere else in the practice. Injury recovery is a regular part of Dr. Holohan's caseload.
Sciatica does not feel like ordinary back soreness, and that is the useful part. That sharp, burning line running from your low back through the hip and down one leg is nerve pain, and nerve pain has a specific cause worth finding.
At Quantum Chiropractic in Burleson we identify where along the spine the sciatic nerve is being compressed and relieve pressure at that point.

Common Causes of Sciatica
- Herniated or bulging disc. A displaced disc pressing on the nerve root.
- Spinal misalignment. Vertebrae narrowing the space the nerve passes through.
- Piriformis tightness. Hip muscle tension compressing the nerve.
- Degenerative disc changes. Wear reducing the space around the nerve.
- Pregnancy. Shifting weight and pelvic position adding pressure.
- Prolonged sitting. Sustained compression aggravating an existing problem.
Symptoms Related to Sciatica
- Pain radiating from the low back down one leg
- Sharp or burning sensation rather than a dull ache
- Numbness or tingling in the leg or foot
- Pain that worsens with prolonged sitting
- Weakness in the affected leg or foot
- Difficulty standing up after sitting
How We Treat Sciatica
- Spinal Decompression — lumbar decompression directly relieves the pressure causing sciatic pain, and this is where it is most useful
- Chiropractic Adjustments — restoring alignment around the affected nerve root
- X-Rays — locating where the compression actually sits
- Prenatal Chiropractic Care — if pregnancy is contributing
- Auto Accident Injury — if it started after a collision
- Closely related: Back Pain
The National Library of Medicine has a plain-language overview of sciatica if you want the clinical background.
What to Expect From Treatment
The first visit traces the pain along its path, examines the lumbar spine and pelvis, and identifies where the nerve is being compressed. X-rays are taken where the findings call for them. If care is appropriate, we explain whether adjustments, lumbar decompression or both are the right route for you.
Most patients notice the leg symptoms easing before the back does, commonly within the first few weeks. Typically decompression sessions run more frequently at the start and reduce as pressure comes off the nerve, with rehabilitative exercises added as tolerance improves. The plan is reassessed as we go rather than sold as a fixed package.
Our Scope and When We Refer Out
Chiropractic care is not the right answer to everything, and we do not pretend otherwise. The assessment is what decides whether this practice can help you. If it points somewhere else, we tell you and we refer you out. We would rather send you to the right person than keep you on our schedule.
If you are unsure whether something needs urgent attention, speak to a physician first.
Common Questions About Sciatica
Is this sciatica or ordinary back pain?
- Sciatica involves the sciatic nerve, so the pain travels from the low back into the buttock and down the leg rather than staying local. That distinction matters because the treatment differs. The examination is what confirms which one you are dealing with.
Can spinal decompression help sciatica?
- Frequently, yes. Lumbar decompression gently separates the vertebrae to reduce pressure on the compressed nerve, which is the source of the pain. It is the tool we reach for most often here, usually alongside adjustments and rehabilitative exercises.
How long does sciatica take to settle?
- It varies with how much compression is present and how long it has been there. Most patients notice the leg symptoms improving before the back does. We reassess through care instead of committing to a timeframe at the first visit.
Take the First Step Toward Relief
Sciatic pain points to compression somewhere along the spine, and compression does not reliably resolve on its own.
